Virgin Mobile Data Gifting

Virgin Mobile Australia has been recognised as an ABA100 Winner for New Product Innovation in The Australian Brand Awards 2017 for the research and development of Virgin Mobile Data Gifting. The Australian Brand Award for New Product Innovation [NEW] recognises innovative consumer products recently launched to market offering a point of difference from their competitors.

True to the Virgin spirit, Virgin Mobile Australia has always aimed to make mobile better and fairer in the Australian market. However, while local competitors offered Data Sharing, customers didn’t have a way to easily share their data. On 1 November 2016, with customers in mind, Virgin Mobile launched Data Gifting – the fairest way to share data.

Data Gifting allows customers with a Virgin Mobile Postpaid service to gift their data to anyone else in the Virgin Mobile Postpaid family. All customers on a Virgin Mobile Postpaid service are eligible to use Data Gifting using the Virgin Mobile My Account App on Android or iOS or through the Virgin Mobile My Account web page. They can gift as much as they want, whenever they want, wherever they are. The service is automatically available, with no registration required and no fees charged.

The Virgin Mobile My Account App lets customers choose the recipient of the data gift from their mobile contacts or allows them to enter the recipient’s name and mobile number. Unlike other Data Sharing offerings, Virgin Mobile customers have full control of their data. Along with Data Rollover, Data Gifting is a strong Postpaid Mobile differentiator for Virgin Mobile Australia.

The Data Gifting experience is simple and easy to use within the mobile app and on web by integrating the customer’s mobile address book, providing a responsive update on their remaining data based on the amount they choose to give, making the selection of the data gift amount as fun and interactive as possible.

Entry is open to all domestic and international brands available in the Australian consumer marketplace.

Products must be commercially available on the Australian market and comply with all applicable Australian standards and regulatory requirements prior to entry. Prototypes or products still undergoing trials are ineligible to enter.

Entries are assessed utilising a robust and dynamic framework to ensure that the assessment process is pertinent and objective. The World Business Awards Framework (WBA Framework) is utilised as a structured model of assessment that enables the participating organisations to be benchmarked against world class performance standards. The Framework consists of specialised assessment modules pertaining to the evaluation criteria for each of the award categories. The criteria and sub-criteria provide a robust set of requirements that are used as the methodology for benchmarking and learning among the participating organisations.

The Australian Brand Awards are the regional chapter of an integrated, hierarchical leadership program conducted on a national and international level. Eligible organisations from each region are invited to participate in the international chapter of the program at The World Brand Awards. Conducted annually and currently in its inaugural year, the awards has been established to honour the most innovative consumer brands by recognising their most innovative consumer products. The program provides a notable opportunity for high-performing organisations which develop innovative consumer products to be acknowledged both nationally and internationally.
