SuperSeed Ice Creme

SuperSeed Ice Creme has been selected as an ABA100® Winner for New Product Innovation in The Australian Brand Awards 2022. The Australian Brand Award for New Product Innovation [NEW] recognises innovative new products that offer a point of difference from their competitors.

“SuperSeed is Australia’s first plant-based ice creme made from hemp seed milk. It’s free from dairy, gluten and nuts, and vegan certified, making it a game changer for people juggling multiple food allergies and/or vegan preferences. Hemp is also far more sustainable than other dairy and non-dairy options.

“It’s exciting to see SuperSeed recognised only months after launch. This award highlights the quality of the product and the efforts behind its creation. Our next challenge is to secure distribution partners and retail channels nationwide to share the goodness of SuperSeed with more consumers.”

Susie White, Founder & CEO, SuperSeed

Australia is the 3rd fastest growing vegan nation and has the dubious crown as the ‘Allergy Capital’ in the world. In response to these major shifts in consumer needs, Susie White, the founder of innovation consultancy Eat Drink Innovate Pty Ltd, created SuperSeed ice creme. SuperSeed is Australia’s first plant-based ice creme made from hemp seed milk.

SuperSeed is a game changer for people juggling multiple food allergies and vegan preferences.

It’s made with hemp seed milk to create a naturally delicious plant-based ice creme, that is free of dairy, gluten and nuts. This makes it unique from 90% of other plant-based ice cremes on the market, which are made from a variety of nut milks and contain nut allergens. SuperSeed is ideal for the 13 million Australians who are seeking foods that are plant-based, free-from allergens and vegan friendly.

In early consumer testing, 89% of respondents considered SuperSeed ice creme to be highly appealing, with 86% considering it to be highly unique versus current products in the market.

Due to its main ingredient of Australian hemp seeds, SuperSeed is a more environmentally friendly alternative than other dairy and nut milk ice creams. Hemp is one of the most sustainable crops grown on land due to its high absorption of carbon dioxide, low water usage and lack of pesticides and fertiliser use. By comparison dairy and nut milks (such as coconut and almond) require significantly more land and water to produce, while having an adverse impact on native rainforests, fair wages and global transport road miles.

SuperSeed ice creme uses 475ml and 120ml tubs made from biodegradable bamboo paper, with a plant-based PLA coating made from sugar cane. PLA is a bioplastic that is a renewable resource, totally biodegradable with no toxic residues and compostable at industrial facilities. This packaging represents a significant shift away from the traditional single use plastic containers used by the majority of ice cream manufacturers with PE or PET plastic linings.

SuperSeed ice creme launched in February 2022 and meets all the Australian product safety and labelling requirements set by Food Standards of Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ). It is available for sale at independent grocers and health food stores across Victoria.

In addition to being plant-based, SuperSeed is committed to being a business for good and supports the regeneration of Australian rainforest with every purchase made. SuperSeed is a female owned and operated family business, based in the Yarra Ranges of Victoria.

Just like its verb namesake (to supersede), SuperSeed ice creme was created to be the most innovative plant-based, allergen-free and vegan friendly ice creme for Australian consumers.
